“Books always change as the person who reads them changes too.”
This book is something that I would definitely recommend to those who don't read a lot or are interested in picking up an accessible literary fiction book, as it follows the similar path and storytelling of popular books.
As for me, I found the book underwhelming. It had a solid start, and an interesting premise with characters that had their own backstories, and had them meeting in the middle without intertwining!
The story loses its spark after a while as the characters fall into a pattern of reading, and the narrator gives us the same list over and over again.
I was especially upset by the way Aleisha berated Zack for no reason and wondered why he kept coming back to her for no reason.
My biggest disappointment, was when it was revealed that Aidan had committed suicide. I think the topic was not handled well at all, neither was Aleisha given the time to grieve properly before the big "happy ending" was force-fed to the readers to wrap up the story.
I wish the author hadn't decided to drop the suicide plot at the end to create a conflict and instead chose to end the story sooner.
