This was an easy read, loved the slow burn romance, found family, magic system and characters. There were really some fresh ideas, which was great.
This book ticks off the (mild) enemies to lovers trope with close proximity. It has a sprinkling of betrayal and lets not forget fated mates, sharing one bed and a horse.
For me.... it lacked a lot of info and action. The ending doesn't make sense, there are holes I need filled and questions answered. I get that it's supposed to set up the second book, but give us something that makes sense, or just a bit more sense.
Yes, it was a big plot twist that smacked me in the face and I don't know if I want to read the second book, just to go through one of the tropes all over again...I want more story, more adventure/action, history, more relationship building. It feels like a lot happened but also, nothing happened and we haven't moved forward with the story much, I expected more.
That being said/ranted, I'm one of few who wasn't blown away, BUT it definitely doesn't mean it was a bad book. It just didn't tick my boxes.
Who knows, maybe I'll digest the storyline over the next while and just maybe, maaaaybe I'll return for book 2.
