The Year We Fell Down
by Sarina Bowen
I think this book did a fantastic job of describing the experience of an acquired spinal cord injury and all the grief and normal everyday living that comes with the change in functioning. I liked that the heroine's struggles were talked about upfront, but they weren't her defining features. Her grief was evident, but not her whole life. It was a positive look at someone with a disability.
That being said, the story itself was very new adult and the romance was kind of boring. Girl loves boy, boy takes forever to figure out that he loves her. So far I haven't been a huge fan of a lot of the new adult books, I may be biased. I loved the portrayal of the heroine and a positive take on someone with a spinal cord injury, just wish the romance was a little more interesting.
