Silent Cravings by Missy Walker

5.0

This was such a beautifully written acknowledgement, of what has happened to so many, and the book that broke me. I want to acknowledge that Missy has done a sensitive subject such justice, despite the tears.

Valentina is the type A personality who is always working, always putting others first, even to her detriment. She is planning the wedding of Rose and Colton, but when she finds out they are pregnant and everything has to be expedited, her past comes flooding back. Just because the physical recovery has come and gone, those emotional scars are still deep and raw.

Evan notices this at the time, but being part of this himself, he has never dealt with any of it himself, so doesn't know what to do or say. He never had great parent role models, so is ability to process some of his own emotions fall flat. Evan and Valentina had a relationship has teenagers/young adults, but that moment in time hangs over them, one covering up and one in denial. They rekindle a sexual (I'll scratch your itch, you scratch mine) relationship, but it isn't long before the past breaks. There connection has always been intense, but when raw emotions are still there, and finally need to be addressed, we see Evan and Valentina both having to face their shared past. So beautifully written, and they are my favourite couple in this series. Even though this can be read as a standalone, in my opinion it is best read in order to make sense of the context, and the other "heirs". Loved this so so much.
