The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book! Madeline Miller has such a beautiful writing style and it really shines in Song of Achilles!

Retelling the Iliad from Patroclus’s point of view adds a truly unique perspective to the story of the Trojan War. Seeing the war from a solely human perspective allows this story to reach emotional depths that wasn’t possible before. It shows the pain and loss of war while simultaneously developing an incredible love story between Achilles and Patroclus.

Miller doesn’t shy away from the dark moments of this story and she’s not afraid to show characters’ weaknesses and flaws. I also loved how the Gods were portrayed: showing the coldness formed with immortality even in times of war was brilliant.

I’m always a sucker for a good love story and this friends-to-lovers was one of the best I read this year!

You will definitely cry but I promise the story is worth reading. I cannot wait to see wait Madeline Miller writes next
