Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow

It took me a long time to get through this one. I even put it up for awhile and then came back to it. But I am very glad I finished it. As a fan of the musical, it was enlightening to see the facts behind the show and even catch occasional lyrics in the text. I didn't approach this like a history text book. I just read it for enjoyment and took as much out of it as I could without really "studying" it. I did find it fascinating that while reading it during the most unusual election I have witnessed, I saw so many parallels between todays flawed candidates and the totally human founding fathers. That actually offered me some comfort--if our great nation could come from those jealous and at times deceitful men, then surely our country can survive what is happening now. A great book, whether you're a fan of the musical or of biographies and history. The characters come alive and the author helps you understand not just what they did, but also the type of people the were and what it would have been like to know them.
