Skylark by Meagan Spooner
1.0
I feel really bad because this is my first Did-Not-Finish in a while. It was very slow, and I know sometimes books take a bit to kick off (that was page 43), so I held on. I wish I had some good things to say, but I don't. The writing is boring, there's barely any dialogue, and not really a lot of explanation when the books begins. Again, I quit at page 107, so there's probably some good stuff, but I couldn't see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I understand that there couldn't be a lot of dialogue because of the protag's situation, but there could have been better inner monologue, or better narration. To me, Lark is rather boring, and her actions . . . sometimes don't make sense. She is realistic--for example, if I was trapped in a large building about to be harvested and tortured over and over again, I'd settle into a stupor, too--but she's not particularly interesting.
If this book appeals to you, give it a shot. It probably needs another pair of eyes. It just didn't work for me. Sorry, Megan. :/
