Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney

5.0

Author Grady Green is having the worst best day of his life.

Grady calls his wife as she’s driving home to share some exciting news. He hears Abby slam on the brakes, get out of the car, then nothing. When he eventually finds her car by a cliff edge, the headlights are on, the driver door is open, her phone is still there . . . but his wife has disappeared.

A year later, Grady is still overcome with grief and desperate to know what happened to Abby. He can’t sleep, and he can’t write, so he travels to a tiny Scottish island to try to get his life back on track. Then he sees the impossible: a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.

'Wives think their husbands will change, but they don’t.
Husbands think their wives won’t change, but they do.'

Alice Feeney Is an autobuy author for me but I think this was my favourite book by her yet. I finished it late last night as I couldn't put it down!
The remote Scottish island was the perfect setting for this story. I could picture the secluded writer's cabin cut off from all civilisation in the woods, with no phone signal and no way off the island. The people who lived there were so intriguing and all quite sinister! It was hard to know whether the things happening to Grady were real or imagined! Was he really seeing his wife who disappeared a year ago? Why would she be on the same remote island?
This book had such a great plot. I was gripped from the first page and the tension just builds and builds! If you love atmospheric thrillers which are hard to predict i would definitely recommend this book!
