Yes it is Sanderson's first book. Yes he has improved a lot in writing style comparatively now. Blah blah.

Irrespective of his other books, it is a solid read. An enjoyable read. I had fun. The characters are lovable and interesting. My favorite is obviously Raoden. I have a soft spot for the morally good characters who are kind and charming. And Raoden fits that perfectly. The plot is well built with a good pacing. There are some loose ends that sre still not tied. But still gives a "completed" feel.

Respective of his other books? This books kinda feels "cute" in comparision(not in an offensive way). I mean this in the way that the elements I love a lot in his books are present here too. But in a smaller magnitude. It's almost endearing to read. The usual hard magic systems that I drool over are "softer" here. Still interesting. And the fan favorite Sanderlanche, is a bit smaller in scale too.

Overall, a good book. Time well spent.
