It feels difficult to rate this particular installment in this story.  On one hand, I did very much enjoy my time with this one and it's been nice to continue going through it for the first time as a buddy-read with a good friend. It's been an excellent motivator to keep going through this at a steady pace, and it's also nice to analyze with someone going through the book with me.

On the other hand, this part of it all has felt...messy. Kind of like an episode of Wacky Races or something, because it's so focused on preventing the possible rise of a new ghost king, but it feels like so many random shenanigans are going on along the way, it's like MXTX was throwing darts at a board to decide what to do in order to draw out this segment.

None of that is to say that there's not points of interest. Jun Wu is feeling mighty suspicious to me, and this eerie, strange correlation between Xie Lian's past history and a Crown Prince of Wuyong from many centuries ago as been intriguing. But even those feel like they threaten to get lost in the continuing waves of random events. I don't know, it just feels like this installment meanders a lot.
