Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard

dark tense medium-paced

3.0

I can absolutely see why someone would want to read this seminal text; the core ideas continue to be very relevant today. That said, I wish I'd read a subsequent book on the topic that plucked out the best examples from Simulacra and Simulation and built a more developed argument around it with additional examples. This one is rough and contradictory in its examples, regressive in its politics, and disingenuous in its lack of citations. If Baudrillard wrote later texts on the topic once the idea was a little more refined, I'd recommend seeking those out instead.
