Nyx was destined to marry Ignifex, the Gentle Lord after her father made a deal with him before she was ever born. Ever since she was younger, she has been training to kill him. On her 17th birthday, she is married and her quest to destroy Ignifex and free Arcadia from its 900-year old curse begins.
I was really excited to pick this up because a) fairytale retelling and b) enemies to lovers trope... but I'm not going to lie... I am disappointed with this book. It started off strong and the concept of the book caught my attention... but by the end of the book I was more annoyed than anything else. The love triangle was confusing and stupid. It was completely unnecessary in my opinion. I also hated the insta-love as well... I did like the sarcasm and banter between Nyx and Ignifex though...
I enjoyed Nyx for the most part... I loved her sass and how determined she was to defeat Ignifex, even after she began to fall in love with him. But at times she was SO ANNOYING and I wanted to hit her. I really loved Ignifex. I thought he was developed very well. I also really liked the idea of the castle and all the changing rooms within it.
The ending was extremely disappointing in my opinion and honestly I'm left a bit confused with what actually happened... Overall, not my favourite fairytale retelling.
