The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan
5.0

The Lover’s Dictionary is unique in that it doesn’t follow a clear plot. It is a love story, written from the first person. What’s unusual is that it is told through dictionary entries. Each page contains a word and a segment of a love story that involves, defines, or exemplifies that word. Because of its dictionary qualities, the story is told in alphabetical order rather than chronological order.

This was a brilliant novel. Levithan is thought provoking and engaging. The alphabetical order brings a new dimension to love stories by forcing the reader to piece it together themselves. The words chosen are unique to the relationship and not the assumed cheesy romantic words. All in all, this novel was brilliant and worth recommending to any adult or young adult interested in romantic stories or unique writing styles.
