Come, Sweet Day: Holding on to Hope in Dark Times: A Writer's Journey
by Julianne Donaldson
Guys, this book. Wow, I’m absolutely speechless. If you are ever having a bad minute, a bad hour, a bad day, a bad week, a bad month, a bad year, or a bad couple of years, this book is for you. During those times of struggle, of trial, of hopelessness, this book can be a beacon of light in the darkness. Every single one of these poems resonated with my soul. The ache you feel when you are in the depths of despair, can only be filled with the help of that Higher Being. For me that is God, for you it could be Allah, the Supreme Being, the Universe. No matter what you call that Being, He is there, reaching out for you in the darkness, a beacon of light, a breath of hope. This book of poetry is different from what I normally read, but it was exactly what I needed, when I needed it. It is a little miracle.
Julianne Donaldson wrote this collection of poems and essays during her own trials. The book is broken up into different sections, My Wilderness, Grace, Light, Home, and Mercy (I think I got them all). Each section is started by an essay, then a collection of poems that are all tied together by the title of that section. But throughout all of the sections the overlaying message is hope. Hope to stand firm, but when standing is too hard, reach out on your knees, for He is always there.
