The House in the Woods by Mark Dawson

3.0

Atticus Priest is a down on his luck ex-cop turned private detective. (*yawn*)

"Mack" Jones is a play it by the book detective (*yawn*)

Both are on opposite sides of criminal investigation, where they don't put aside their differences and work together (which is a twist).

Only Atticus's special skills (breaking into places and nosing around) can uncover what happened on Christmas Eve.

Thankfully, the end resolution is convincing, and one obvious twist didn't twist quite as I expected.

But the characters aren't new or interesting enough to compel me to read more of the series.
