May the Road Rise Up to Meet You: A Novel
by Peter Troy
Simple review: Beautiful.
This book is full of developed, flawed, and remarkable characters you just have to root for. You know their disparate lives are going to connect, and you can mostly figure out how, but this book is less about the plot and much more about the evolution of one's life - with all its joys and struggles and triumphs and failures. I also really appreciated the historical fiction element that brought to life a harrowing and gruesome part of American history (the Civil War) without romanticizing it or portraying a white savior etc. I'll be thinking about this book for quite some time (hence the 5 stars!).
