P.S. I Still Love You
by Jenny Han
Interesting to compare this to the movie version; honestly the characters are such separate entities in their different versions (Peter especially, he's a lot more likeable in the films). In this book, I can't understand why anyone would keep liking Peter K. He's your typical douchebag jock who clings on to his ex-girlfriend Gen but then gaslights Lara Jean everytime she brings it up. That's not a good message to the readers. Lara Jean inevitably ends back up with Peter and he 1000% doesn't deserve it by the end. Also Kitty taking Peter's side initially warranted way more outrage and I seriously wanted to throw that little shit down a...okay, it's 2am and i'm clearly going a lil loopy. No, I don't condone throwing minors down any deep crevices, but regardless, Kitty can suck it.
I will say that Lara Jean's anxiety about intimacy and sex as well as liking multiple people at once are all very relatable concepts and I like that the movie also brought these anxieties out too. So I gave this book an extra star for addressing these important issues. Also John Ambrose is pretty great though I may not entirely get this fandom's obsession with him. Maybe Book 3 has him do even lovelier things for Lara Jean? Just please kick that dirtbag PK to the curb (not gonna happen, i know it, but a girl can still hope)
