You have to read the Bronze Horseman before this one, of course. It is a continuation of that and has so many flashbacks from it. It was a long long journey to get them reunited in this book... the war goes on, the war ends, and they still are not together! It details life in New York near then end of the war, and much about war and imprisonment in Germany and Russia. Her books tend to leave you hanging too. There is no way not to read the last one, and also don't want to because it makes me crazy frustrated.
