The Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson

3.0

This was a Page Habit pick for young adult. I get the horror selection but they send a card with a list of the books in the other boxes and I've picked up a few of them from the library.

The world as we know it has ended with nuclear war and disease. A few have survived up in the Yukon where the disease wasn't as prevalent and now they are eking out an existence in the harsh snow-covered wilderness. Lynn is in her early twenties and is starting to wonder what her future holds when a mysterious stranger and his dog shows up near the homestead. It could have turned into a sappy romance pretty quickly but it didn't.

True to form, Lynn finds out she's "special". This is a genre standard in any post-apocalyptic young adult novel. The protagonist always has something that sets her apart from all the others. Also true to form, she has to figure out what to do with that knowledge.

There is definitely room for a sequel here. Readers are going to want to know what happened to Lynn and her mysterious friend.
