The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata

3.0

Vanessa is personal assistant to Aiden Graves, a famous professional football player. He is utterly devoted to his training regimen and his athletic career, leaving no time for friends or dating. But he is also withdrawn and unappreciative of all the hard work Vanessa does for him, and finally she has had enough. A few weeks after she quits, Aiden shows up at her door, offering her whatever she wants if she’ll come back.

The characters are convincing, and the relationship issues are believable. But good lord, does it drag. Vanessa holds a grudge way too long, and her interminable mental arguments with herself quickly become tedious (I confess a fair amount of skimming occurred). And it is definitely a slow burn. Very slow.

It must not have bugged me too much, though, because I finished this in a couple of days, helped out by a cold, rainy afternoon that I decided was best spent reading.
