this book is phenomenal. i truly loved every second i spent reading it. Kei Miller is an incredible storyteller, bringing so much to life to the story of August Town, to the people that make up this community. to the way oppression bleeds on entire communities and on individual people. to the significance of dreadlocks, to the significance of believing in the stories that make up the history of a place, to bearing witness

“you may as well stop to consider a more urgent question; not whether you believe in the story or not, but whether this story is about the kinds people you have never taken the time to believe in.”

also i was dying at the theatrics in the church scene with the way they were messing with the white man journalist that came into town 😅
