On the surface, Beowulf killing monsters and receiving gold and gifts, is a fun time; plus, I found it cool to read such an old text. I imagine the translation does justice to the original poem as best as possible but it's not hard to imagine we're all missing part of the genius of the author's original Old English verses.
That said—and I have no contemporary stories to compare it to—it's very surface-level, and the plot jumps around (although, thankfully, Heaney's notes and introduction help make these bits easier to follow).
If this was a new work, it probably gets lower than a 3, but I feel like it's still worth it, given it's not a long poem at all.
