This Song Will Save Your Life
by Leila Sales
Trigger warning for suicide, self-harm, and bullying.
This Song Will Save Your Life is very relatable for people who think they're misfits. Elise is unpopular, and she desires to have friends. One summer she works really hard into turning herself cool; she researches popular music and redoes her wardrobe. After returning to school, she realizes this attempt didn't work in her favor. So, she goes home and does self-harm. After the affects of that incident, Elise encounters an underground nightclub which may be her saving grace in her life. She then has to tackle her nightlife with her real-life and struggles come with that.
This book packed a lot of emotion in just a short book. The pace and writing style is nice, and it flowed very quickly. Yet, I really wanted more of this story, and Elise as a character wasn't my favorite. She judges other people while not wanting to be judged herself, especially at the beginning of the story, which is normal for a teenager to do. However, there's not much growth from her throughout the story of this, which is what I wanted to see more of
