There were lots of moments in this book that I really enjoyed. I really liked how unlikeable Mariano made Carter. I also really appreciated the perspective of how
his abuse did make him the way he is, yes, but he’s found a way to live with himself and enjoy his life again
instead of making his personality based on his backstory. Carter is horrifically a privilege white heteronormative man and owns it instead of makes excuses for it. Zoey’s curious nature to explore her sexuality alongside his was described in a very healthy way — minus the obvious sexual harassment. Her mindset and her mental strength make her the perfect match in a dom/sub relationship and I really enjoyed finally finding a healthy version of this instead of fucking Christian fucking Grey and Ana Steele being the notorious pairing —
Anyway.
I also enjoyed how Mariano didn’t hold back with the dark elements of this narrative. She had me often closing my eyes and wincing and gasping alongside Zoey. Her writing was captivating and her flow was excellent. I was intrigued from start to end.
