A Coup of Tea by Casey Blair

Maybe some very minor spoilers ahead, don’t read if you’re sensitive about such things.

At first, I was really enjoying this book. I thought it was going to be a kind of fairytale retelling, which I always enjoy. However, the main character's love interest felt like a hollow character. I mean, reading law books? Boring! And when they started attending city council meetings, I was just about done. The only thing more boring than sitting through a city council meeting would be reading about people sitting through one. And honestly, gentrification? It’s not great, sure, but it’s not the horror that the author made it seem here. I know there were other things they were fighting too, which I don’t mean to trivialize. I just don’t want to read about a Princess fighting systematic racism and gentrification. So, while I found this book readable, I probably won't rush to continue the series.
