The story and its themes were very different from Noughts and Crosses and knife's edge. The dystopian society the characters live in wasn’t the main theme of the story anymore and was replaced with very dysfunctional relationships. Most of the characters made decisions that were infuriating, and were written so differently from the first book that they pretty much weren't the same people anymore (Sephy in particular.) However, I really did like how Jasmine was written and all the positive changes she had made because of her love towards her family. She was fantastic in this book and became my favourite character.

Callie's school journey made me feel I was just re-reading noughts and crosses again, but it did have a satisfying conclusion for some of the characters.
