Two Women in One by Nawal El Saadawi
Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.
I am in a particularly inhospitable week for elective cerebral content but while I may have finished Two Women in One at another time I don't think I ever would have been super into it. I rarely like the disjointed stream-of-consciousness style that El Saadawi uses here; it reminds me of authors I hate, like Clarice Lispector, but I think my dislike has to do with the form itself as much as any negative associations. there is something about it that feels like a failure to commit. I much preferred Woman at Point Zero. ALSO this is a translation from Arabic of a novel by an Egyptian woman! I’m a dumbass white american man who only speaks colonial English so honestly this is way over my head and so not meant for me!
