I do enjoy the Matthew Shardlake books, with his sturdy clark Jack Barak. This one is no different, though I felt that the author tried to do too much in this one: the ward case involving Hugh Curtey and the Hobbey family, the investigation into Ellen Fettiplace's history and the re-appearance of the very evil Sir Richard Rich among the background of the war against France. Throw in Jack and Tamsin's relationship and Matthew's new servant situation and it makes for a slightly more chaotic set up. It was still a book I enjoyed and I loved the historical setting, with its details and descriptions.
