Olivie Blake has been a favourite of mine since discovering her fanfiction many moons ago because there was just something about how she weaves her characters together and breathes life into her fictional world.
I'm not sure if it's her way of seeing the world, or if it's the style of writing but Olivie Blake truly stands out as an author. Januaries: Stories of Love, Magic & Betrayal is no exception and I was captivated by each story even the ones that I didn't necessarily enjoy. Monster Love and Preexisting Condition just weren't for me personally, but they're still so well written.
Januaries: Stories of Love, Magic & Betrayal is diverse and that too is what appeals because Blake's writing shows her diversity in style and probable reading from her author talks. As you read each tale in this anthology, you will move from modern fairy tales for adult minds, to a mix of poetry/verse or there's a retelling of Greek Mythology that for once isn't Hades & Persephone. (To be clear, I love their retelling but it's good to explore moreā¦)
If you enjoy having your thoughts played around with, and the beauty of evocative writing? If Atlas Six had you captivated and craving more of Blake's complex mind? Then I'd suggest Januaries because it lingers in your psyche.
