Hooked by Emily McIntire

4.0

I've had knowledge of this series for quite some time now but have never gotten started reading it. In August, one of my book clubs, Ku Besties, decided on Crossed (book 5) as their book of the month. After finishing Crossed and thoroughly enjoying it, I made the decision to continue reading the others in the series. Hooked was the very first one up! I have previously read numerous different interpretations of the Peter Pan story, with Nikki St. Crowe's Vicious Lost Boys series being the most well-known. I haven't, however, read one that involves the villain, Captain Hook, getting the girl. I don't really know what my expectations were for this dark retelling of Peter Pan, but they were completely smashed. Although this isn't a straight-up retelling of the Peter Pan story, the references are plentiful! This book's plot kept me guessing the entire time. There was never an empty moment or a section where I thought the plot was dragging; it was action-packed throughout. The way James and Wendy were portrayed was excellent. In this novel, their traits just made sense. Because I could really sense how intensely chemistry-filled these two characters' interactions were, I really adored reading about them.
