OMG a 2023 romcom that I actually loved?? Shut the front door 😂 Planes, Trains, and All the Feels was honestly SO GOOD. I loved Livy Hart's debut last year and I think at this point, I will be on the lookout for anything she publishes.
We have a strangers to enemies to lovers type of situation here with Cassidy and Luke. It all begins when he steals her parking spot at the airport, although he would tell you he took that spot fair and square 😂 From then on, their journey takes a wild turn as their plane has a technical issue and they're forced to share the last rental car to make it to their destination 😂 Prepare yourself for an epic plot twist involving their rental car 💀
Not only do we have a wild and fun travel journey, we also have the most amazing banter between Luke and Cassidy 🤌🏽 He's a starchy and super responsible actuary who makes plans. She's a fun-loving and charming dancer who doesn't know how to spell plans. And they're forced to share only one car and only one clamshell bed. It's perfection 🤌🏽
This book was a solid romcom, with loveable characters, a well-written storyline and characterization, great chemistry and tension, solid relationship and character development, and really good steam (higher than expected 🥵). This book checks all my boxes for a romcom, minus the third act breakup, but it's also an understandable breakup. I was 💯 convinced that Luke and Cassidy truly fell in love during their trip. Their journey was so well-written that their love for each other felt believable.
In terms of character development, both Cassidy and Luke have their respective family drama. Obviously, these issues don't get magically resolved because it's simply not realistic. But both Cassidy and Luke show growth in the way they approached their respective family conflict and dealt with it.
I'm really hoping for a Will and Berkeley story. She's grumpy and cynical and he's all charm and sunshine. Their banter and their meet cute also hooked me. I really need them to fall in love!!!
