Island of the Blue Dolphins
by Scott O'Dell
I was captivated by the setting and the character of this novel. Karana, the main character who was left in the island for many years was able to survive through her determination and knowledge of things. The island seems like a paradise for me. The pacing of the story is good.
I didn’t like the greedy foreigners who started hunting and killing otters on their island. I also didn’t like her brother because of his hard-headed attitude and who was the reason why they were left in the island in the first place.
But there are numerous moments that I really love, like when she and her enemy, the leader of the wild dogs became friends and when she worked hard so she could survive. I kind of envy her because of her strenght and the way she lived alone in the island, though it was really lonely.
This book is really entertaining and it made me realize and learn many things.
