Game Changer! Book Access for All Kids by Colby Sharp, Donalyn Miller

5.0

This is a primer on reading. Anyone who considers themselves a literacy educator should read this book! Great for preservice teachers of all stripes.

“Research proves children’s access to a full-time, degreed librarian increases test scores, closes the achievement gap, and improves writing skills.”

I liked the chapter on book ownership, something I am trying to get off the ground with a PTO sponsored book club.

“The world is filled with incredible humans whose stories have been kept out of classrooms for far too long. And it has caused too many people harm. It is up to us to reverse the damage, which means giving students access to books that give them access to lives of those who have not always been welcome.”
