I'm not usually one for either super slow burn romance or slow pace meandering plots, but this worked for me. I do enjoy the Cinderella-fantasy of it all, but there were plenty of other things I liked. The characters (though sometimes a bit one dimensional) are great, including villains and side characters, and I developed strong feelings about each of them. I enjoyed the political machinations even though they do slow the plot to a degree. The burn is slow but natural and gave me enough to satisfy, and I liked their dynamics. Although we're only given a small slice of the world, there were enough details that I felt like there was more beyond the city. It was a nice, cozy read.
