Not the type of historical fiction I normally read and I absolutely loved the historical context that surrounded the plot, it was beautifully immersive. However, the plot wasn’t for me, I didn’t feel the stakes were high, I wasn’t emotionally interested in the characters, and it felt that being gruesome was just for shock than plot honestly.
