a brilliantly tragic expose on motherhood, womanhood and daughters. i flew through this book in a few hours on one day and i was completely enraptured by ferrante's writing. she manages to explore so much - being torn between the self and the mother, complex interrelationships between mothers and daughters, queer-coded sexual desire, grief, desperation to be an interesting person. it was an unflinching portrayal of one woman's emotions, opinions and desires sucking you in with its honest brutality. i will definitely be rereading this
