The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
5.0

Firstly as I have said with the previous installments, if you are blessed to have not been spoiled for this series I beg of you to read the books first. Everything in this was particularly was dulled down because I knew what would happen - so many moments I would have given anything to feel everthing organically.

Dulled down may not be the right phrase as I am sat here crying now that I've finished - and the final blow was actually in the Appendixes. I'll admit I didn't read all of the appendixes, but I at least suggest reading the timeline of what happens in the fourth age because oooh it was heartwrenching.

Anyway, the story itself. Its Beautiful. So beautiful - Tolkien writes friendship so intimately, it feels so raw. You truly feel the characters' respect and adoration for one another seep through the pages. I've read many a great book but something about the relationships in this trilogy feel so different. I feel like they've been carved within me.

I will forever be grateful that I finally pulled myself together and read these books. I don't think I'll get over them for a long, long time.
