Fear the Worst by Linwood Barclay
4.0
Tim Blake is a kind of everyman. He sells cars; he's divorced; his relationship with his girlfriend is less-than stellar, and his teenage daughter, Sydney, is someone he knows and loves deeply. In fact, she's staying with him during the summer while she works at a low-rent hotel not far from her home.
Tim's nightmare begins the night Sydney doesn't come home from work. He does what any dad would do--he goes to the hotel to inquire about whether she had to stay Late. To his horror, he learns that not only wasn't she there at all that day, she hasn't worked there at all that summer.
The secrets begin piling up the more Tim investigates. He is constantly frustrated by law-enforcement officials who seem to pay little attention to him and who seem to be dragging their feet on finding her.
As Tim gets closer to the truth and to finding his daughter, he gets closer to circumstances that endanger his own life. This is every parent's worst nightmare, and there are enough twists and turns here to keep you reading to the final page.
