Thank you Pansing, Definitely Books for sending me an ARC of this book, it is now available in all good bookstores!

This book is escapism at its finest. It takes you to the past, present and future. I was immersed into the book and was so invested in the lives of these characters. I really liked how as you kept on reading, you get to see how their lives intertwine and are connected to each other. It was really well done and I was satisfied with the execution.

Doerr has undeniably beautiful writing. I do not feel that it is overly extravagant but just the right amount so it didn't irritate me. He also made a lot of commentary on climate change and the environment which I appreciated. It was sown into the story very well so it didn't feel out of place.

I really liked reading about these characters. They just want this beautiful utopia yet due to unfortunate circumstances they never truly reach it. I found the story beautiful and heartbreaking. The ending was well done too and I found that it wrapped things up satisfyingly and it was a realistic ending in the context of the rest of the book.

As much as I enjoyed aspects of this novel, a few things were not to my liking. Firstly, I found certain parts of this book to be so boring which is why it took me a month to finish it. It is 600 pages which I felt could easily be concentrated into 500 at most. The plot goes idle one too many times and it loses my engagement. I also found that the author used certain metaphors and wrote phrases, then proceeded to explain them. It wasn't done too often but it was there and I found it unnecessary.

I enjoyed this novel and am in awe at how the author manages to create such an expansive story yet connect it all together. It was very creative and well-executed so I will be checking out his other books very soon.
