That Boy by Jillian Dodd

2.0

Off the bat, I realized this book tries to put 22 years into one story. I'm much more of a one school year per book kind of gal, so I think the pace was a little too fast, and I missed some of the details. I appreciate the idea of the story's plot, but it wasn't executed well. The first person narrative from elementary school had the same tone/writing style as the adult years. Most of the sentences were very "he did this", "I responded with...". There was very little diversity in the syntax. Clearly this book was made for a younger audience; there is very little cursing, detail, or intimacy. Read if you want a light, quick read and you don't care if the reading level is a little low.
