Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen
5.0

There is so much I could say about this book. Hannah's agony and yearning are so compelling that I was addicted to her journey from very early on (at first the storytelling style was a little jarring, but I quickly got wrapped up in it once I figured out who the characters were and what they meant to one another). The fact that we're living so in the moment the entire story and get very little flashbacks or background allows you to immerse yourself in Hannah's struggle and fully empathise with her pain. When she hurt I hurt, when she had small sparks of joy I was right there with her. The third person narration was also a brilliant choice, as it was so easy to see yourself in Hannah despite her experiences not being your own. Even Baker's pain, which we hear about only through the other characters' assessment, was palpable.
