Lucky Charm by Anne-Marie Meyer

3.0

Rating: 3.5/5 Penguins (rounded down)
Quick Reasons: real life inspiration; cute, entertaining, star-crossed romance; big buildup, small playout; HEA ending

HUGE thanks to Anne- Marie Meyer for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way impacted or altered by this gesture.

This was a super cute, star- crossed lovers, happily ever after read that pulled inspiration from a real life romance (Taylor and Travis, we're looking at you). Because I am....uh.....me, it totally slipped my grasp that this was even inspired by then until I closed the book after reading and then went back and read the dedication.... so.... there's that, I guess.

The writing style was cute and endearing, though maybe a bit angsty (bordering on immature) at certain points. Because of the nature of romance reads, this pulled on some of the popular romance tropes (big brother's ex best friend; fake romance for fame; forced proximity). I had a blast following these characters on their journey, though I do wish we had gotten more from the best friend Tilly -- she seemed like such a quirky character. And Grandma!!! I feel like we only got the smallest glimpse of her and wish it had been more fleshed out. The romance also felt a bit sluggish, for me personally-- there was a lot of will they won't they happening, to the point I almost decided I didn't really care if they never did. (Maybe I've just been reading too much spicy tuna content, though.... that one might be on me.)

Still, I would recommend this to lovers of star-crossed lovers, brother's (ex) best friend romances, and stories drawing inspiration from real life events. What will YOUR Lucky Charm be, Penguins?
