This was a very beautiful book that was about --to me at least-- an often overlooked situation in the World: namely, the complicated relationships between Korean/Japanese cultures. It is set amongst historical events of the 20th century (WWII, Korean War...) and so can be a tough read at times --not to mention the trends of death, shame, racism, misogyny, and trauma that --to both the benefit and liability of most-- affects each character across generations. Arguably a bit long and too many meandering storylines (maybe it would have benefited being a series?), it is still a worthwhile read.
