Halfway through this book I told my fiancรฉ that currently my happiness relied on the continued safety of a man and his rock-spider alien best friend and I still stand by that. This was such an absolutely wonderful book! It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me grin so hard my face hurt - all the signs of a great story!
Andy Weir managed to make a story that was one part mystery, one part science project, and one part buddy comedy, throw it out into the far reaches of space, and then fill it to the brim with hope. It was impossible not to fall in love with how wonderfully human Grace is (and wonderfully Eridian Rocky is).
I ended up listening to the audio book based on a recommendation from a friend and Iโm so so glad I did! First of all Ray Porter is a phenomenal narrator who brought so much energy to Grace. Secondly, they actually play the musical tones Rocky uses to speak which was such a cool effect. So I definitely back up my friendโs recommendation that this is really worth choosing to listen to the audio version.
