This Savage Song
by V.E. Schwab
medium-paced
I’m so confused to see the mixed array of reviews for this book because I loved it. I guess that’s the beautiful thing about reading, there is something for everyone but not everyone will love everything.
I personally adore VE Schwab’s writing and I think the flow and voice that comes through is great. I thought the world building for this book was unique and pretty solid- the way the powers work for the different kinds of monsters was really interesting and I found myself wanting to know more.
The one issue I could point out was that the supporting characters felt as though they kind of disappeared without any real warning or reason, but I also could see where the story was heading and knew those side characters wouldn’t really factor in to the story for long.
I listened to this on audio, though I have the physical book as well, and the narrator did a really great job with the pacing and delivered the story with a good amount of emotion throughout. Whether or not that factored into my enjoyment, who can really say, but I did genuinely like this book. I’m looking forward to the next one.
