Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami

4.0

I've always been a fan of Japanese contemporary fiction. Hiromi Kawakami is an award winning Japanese author. So I gladly took upon the chance of reading A Strange Weather in Tokyo.

The story is about what we call a May December romance. Tsusiko crosses paths with her high school teacher whose name she has forgotten. She calls him Sensei. The story revolves around both of them: how they get to know each other despite their introverted nature.

The story is written in a dreamy manner. Its very Japanese, minimalistic and clear. Its about the loneliness and emptiness. There were some poignant moments. But overall, its a very cleansing read.

Oh! and there are several mentions about mouthwatering Japanese food. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite there was not much of a plot in this novella. If you love Haruki Murakami, you should definitely try this book.
