Soft Like Thunder by Julia Wolf

5.0

I loved everything about this book. Helen was always one of my favorites and for some reason, I instantly loved Theo. They were both so closed off and miserable. Helen had a year with Mads to start unwinding all of it, but she was grieving and dealing with some heavy shit, trying to keep her sister safe from her mom's loan shark. Then she met Theo, a somewhat broken boy who was miserable and letting life happen to him, letting everyone else dictate his actions. She immediately started opening up to him, letting out little bits at a time, breaking her own rules. It took Theo a lot longer to figure out how much of a mess he was. Seeing Hells happy and soft was so fucking satisfying.

I loved that we got scenes with the whole crew back together, getting updates on their lives...and that epilogue? Perfection. (I can't wait to read Luciana's story)
I also really enjoyed seeing more of the softer side of Elena. I started seeing her differently in Pen and Gabe's book, but we get even more here. I hope that continues through the series.

Side note...did she kill off Nate Bergen?! They never mention him by name but at one point Hells says the last man who touched her without permission got a beat down from her friends (Gabe beat tf out of Nate) and had died in a car accident the year prior. Which would be the fall after they graduated. Good fucking riddance, if it was him. Fuck that guy.
