"By Fire and Flood," is the first book in the Songs of Galarmos series, I was quickly immersed in a richly detailed world divided by magical alignment. The vivid descriptions of Galarmos' realms, coupled with the exploration of its magic and political systems, created a captivating experience.
One of the novel's strengths lies in its ability to tease out mysteries and secrets, leaving readers guessing and anticipating the revelations to come. Kafsky's ability to foreshadow events and reveal secrets gradually adds depth and intrigue. Throughout the story, I was constantly questioning and speculating, only to be rewarded with satisfying revelations.
Nissa and Tryamon, our dynamic protagonists, offer a compelling contrast. Their differing backgrounds and magical abilities create a palpable tension that fuels their interactions. Watching their paths converge and intertwine kept me engaged from beginning to end.
BFAF is a well-crafted fantasy adventure that promises to be the beginning of a thrilling series. Fans of intricate worldbuilding, compelling characters, and a touch of mystery will be sucked into this series and I think be just as excited for book 2 as I am.
