The Garden of the Finzi Continis by Giorgio Bassani

4.0

Beautifully written, this book took me to a different era. The descriptions of the garden, the houses and Ferrara itself are almost magical, and the nostalgic tone truly made me feel as if I was there. Without being the focus of the story, the historical background is another element of the story, an impeding sense of doom and perhaps of explanation of a time that can never come again.
