The Choice by Claire Wade

5.0

1984 with cake (or rather, without…)

I came to The Choice with a vague idea about its content. A world without cake or sugar. That didn’t sound so terrible. But the more I read, the greater the consequences of a government who dictated what you ate, how much exercise you took, and even what clothes size you maintained became.

Add to that the paranoia of living in a world where neighbours spy on each other and score points by informing to the authorities, and suddenly The Choice takes a much darker turn.

I liked the main character, Olivia. Down-trodden and emotionally exhausted, sooner or later she was going to make a change, and what a glorious change it was.

I’ll be interested to see more books by this author.
